Instagram is your new business card (GOOD EXAMPLE ATTACHED)

Are you taking personal branding seriously enough?

"People do not buy goods and services. They buy relations, stories and magic."

-Seth Godin

You can get jobs with your Instagram

If you told me that my 13-year-old self (who was obsessed with selfies showing half my face) they would be using my Instagram to get new clients I’d tell you: “YOU’RE CRAZY!”

But that is the world we live in nowadays.

Your social media is the fastest way for employers to run a life audit on you in the modern era.

Don’t panic…here’s what you need to do

First of all, take a serious look at your social media profiles…what do they convey?

Do you really need that picture of you downing a beer with your shirt off on your timeline?

Think of what your social media tells others.

It was only a year ago that my social media SCREAMED student with an oversized ego. That needed to change.

Now the question is…what should you be posting?

You’re going to hate this but…that is up to you.

How do you want to be perceived?

Are you a fitness nut - then post your runs, gym progress and places that your passion has taken you.

Or maybe you’re a photographer…post your pictures, the places your skills have taken you and the “behind the scenes” shots of your profession.

The bottom line is, your social media should ooze AUTHENTICITY AND DISPLAY WHAT YOU VALUE MOST (in HD…of course).

Let’s look at a good example:

Iman Gadzhi is a multi-millionaire entrepreneur and by looking at his Instagram it shows.

But that’s not all, remember how I told you “your social media should ooze AUTHENTICITY AND DISPLAY WHAT YOU VALUE MOST (in HD…of course).

Can you see how Iman has done that here? Take a look:

  • High-quality imagery

  • Shows pictures of him working on his phone (showing he values his image as a “businessman”)

  • Family photos (Iman clearly puts his family first)

  • Luxury lifestyle (cigars, watches…his business has allowed him to value the finer things in life)

  • Fitness videos/images (scroll further down on his page and you’ll see what I mean)

  • A clean and direct bio: it is easy to find out what Iman is working on and how you can find out more about it.

Don’t overcomplicate things - pick what you value in life and make sure your Instagram displays that.

By prioritising a social media that shows off who YOU are, the people you want to connect with will find it easier to reach out/respond to you because you make a good first impression.

I hope this doesn’t stress you out too much, your social media should be a fun project to help build a portfolio showing how you live life.

If your life IS DOWNING BEERS WITH YOUR SHIRT OFF…then I expect to attract like-minded individuals into your life and see how far that gets you.

Take care and create more.

Yours sincerely

Matthew Harris
